FAQ

  • Q: If you pre-register before the day of the event, do you have to check in on the day of the event, or can you just go to a spot and start fishing?
A: You can go fish anywhere you like — no need to check in. You only need to visit the Trout Derby Check-In Station if you want to get your complimentary pin, check in a tagged trout, or buy raffle tickets or food.

Q: If you do need to check in, where is it and what do you need?
A: Check-in is at 125 West Washington St in Chambersburg (in the parking lot in front of CVS in the Southgate Shopping Center). If you’re checking in a tagged trout, you’ll need your registration badge, which is either mailed to you or picked up depending on when you registered.

Q: What time can you start fishing?
A: Fishing starts at 6:00 AM on Saturday morning and goes until 3:00 PM on Sunday afternoon.

Q: If you catch a fish with a tag, do you have to keep the entire fish or can you take the tag off and release the fish?
A: If it’s a big tagged trout (over 18″), bring it in with the tag still intact so it can be measured for the largest tagged trout contest (if you signed up for that). Otherwise, you can remove the tag, release the fish, and just bring the tag in for payment.

Q: Where do you turn in a fish with a tag?
A: Turn in the trout at our Trout Derby Headquarters located in front of the CVS at 125 West Washington Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Q: Do all tags have a prize associated with them, or are some fish tagged without prizes?
A: All trout that we stock will have a prize associated with them, ranging from $25 to $2,500.

Q: Are you only allowed to catch your limit of fish each day? For example, if you catch five trout on Saturday, can you catch five more on Sunday?
A: Yes, you are allowed to turn in up to 5 tags per day — Saturday and Sunday.
